Tita Cory’s Funeral, Special Non Working Holiday

2 August 2009 6 Comments

President AquinoThe private funeral of the late former President Corazon Aquino will be held on Wednesday, August 5. Malacanang has declared August 5 as a Special Non Working Holiday. As announced by the Aquino family, she will be buried beside her late husband, Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr at the Manila Memorial Park in Sucat, Parañaque City.

The declaration of the special non working holiday will allow the nation to witness the funeral of President Corazon Aquino. To those who have witnessed and present at the Ninoy’s funeral, you have an idea on how many the mourners and followers of Ninoy who brought him to his final resting place… thousands. I’m sure it will happen again.

On August 3, Monday, from La Salle Greenhills, President Cory’s remains will be transferred to Manila Cathedral at 11 am. A mass will be held at 9 am at the Manila Cathedral before the burial on Wednesday.

Reportedly, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has cut short her working visit to United States, she will leave New York in Sunday (Philippine time) in order to make it to President Cory Aquino’s funeral.

We owe our democracy to Tita Cory, I sometimes have goosebumps when I remember the People’s Power revolution, her sacrifices for our freedom. I maybe too young that time but memories are still there. She is indeed a good soul and will never be forgotten… the democracy icon… the mother of democracy… the mother of freedom.
