Trapos' Early Campaign Commercials
I’m sure many pinoys understand the word “trapo”, FYI for new voters, the word trapo was derived from the word traditional politician. I can’t remember when did I learned this word, I might overheard my tatay saying the word.
For me, trapo are politicians that are “too good to be true“. They will do things that they don’t normally do. Or let people know their accomplishments or an image that will reflect their platform, this is possible by early or premature campaign in tv commercials. Sorry, I don’t read newspapers and listen to radio, I don’t know if early ads already existed (in the provinces). I read news online on a daily basis, teleradyo in the morning and primetime news on TV.
Here in the Philippines, we do know who they are because we often see their commercials on local channels. Remember the politician in “Wala” music video of Kamikazee, portrayed by Jay Contreras? He’s the exact example of trapo.
Its impossible that politicians who are already airing their campaign commercials didn’t know the Omnibus Election Code, Article 1, Section 3 states that the election and campaign period for Presidential and Vice Presidential Campaign is 90 days before election date. The National Election is May 10, 2010… that’s more than 10 months ahead already as of this writing.
A Secretary started airing his commercial during the Pacquiao-Hatton boxing match. A perfect day to start theairing of commercials where people are waiting for the replay telecast.
A Mayor started the commercial a month before the city’s foundation day. “Ganito kami sa M*****.”
A Senator, the OFW’s savior on their problems using his own money. I can’t remember when he started his commercials. My wild guess is January this year, correct me if I’m wrong because I’m not sure.
Another Senator who is a “padyak” (pedicab) passenger by a boy driver. He showed the current problem in the country… poverty.
No matter how good or how early their commercials, or how good their platform… be aware that premature campaign is against the law BUT it doesn’t state there what the consequences are if they disobey. It happened from past elections and will always will. Anybody can complain but there are no moves from COMELEC.
Mahiya naman kayo, kabayan.

Yeah. this is so true. That’s what i really think as well. As good, politicians, they have to abide in whatever law there is. It should be a basis for voting, we have to vote for those who carry the law.
They can be called cheating.
The must practice FAIRNESS.
(if they want to be future public servants.)
