Now that the Legacy Group mess is being investigated, lots of political figure were dragged on protecting businessman turned politician Celso De Los Angeles. Allegedly, Vice President Noli De Castro was protecting De Los Angeles for supporting him in 2004 election. But Kabayan did not disclose De Los Angeles’ contribution to his Statement of Election Contributors and Expenditures submitted to COMELEC.
VP De Castro denies protecting De Los Angeles. But he admitted that De Los Angeles contributed tarpaulins for Kabayan’s 2004 campaign two months ago. According to COMELEC lawyer Sixto Brillantes, there would be perjury on the part of the Vice President. On the contrary, Atty. Brillantes was the lawyer of Senator Loren Legarda, who filed an election protest case against De Castro for alleged cheating in the 2004 elections.
“Kung ikaw man ay tumulong sakin noong election, anuman klase tinulong mo, hindi nangangahulugan na entitled ka sa aking protection,” he said in the radio interview. (“If you helped me in any way during the election, it doesn’t mean you are entitled to my protection”)
The sad part is according to COMELEC, election documents were lost to the fire that razed its old building in March 2007.
